The Magnificent Seven and "Mama Pam" show up on Oprah! This entry was posted on 2/19/2007 2:41 PM and is filed under Children of Hope. I have been very busy but I need to tell you that OPRAH covered the Village of Hope and the story of the Magnificent Seven. You can see part of the archive about Mark on O's website at Sold into Slavery.
It was a great show on the plight of all children in Ghana that are working as slaves. I am so glad that they gave props to Pam Cope and her family but they didn't mention her organization, the fact that her children were adopted from Viet Nam, or very much about the Village of Hope. It was great footage of the kids and their progress, but there was little mention of the great things going on at the Village of Hope. I know the story is somewhat bigger and that I am VERY BIASED to the Village of Hope but they didn't mention Fred's name or talk much about the work at VOH. However, I am happy that we got the coverage that we got. God can do this work without Oprah (she may not know that) but it is a nice story to tell. We were all very excited to see VOH and the kids on her show. ( I balled when Mark spoke in English). I could tell though that Lisa Ling was not only touched by the story of the plight of the kids but you could see her reveal her heart when she spoke about the Village of Hope. You cannot go there without being touched very deeply. After seeing the horrible things that she saw in Volta, I am sure that it was an even more amazing experience to see what can happen when God's people get involved. I pray that this TV coverage helps many more children be reunited with their families or helps funds the children that cannot return to their family. |
